Wistron 黃亮中 考上 PMP 心得分享

First of all, I would like all of you to excuse me for completing this thank you letter in English as my Chinese composition is not up to scratch.

I obtained two master degrees in Electrical Engineering and Cost Management Accounting. I deliberately did this because I wanted to be a technical specialist while at the same time was fascinated with the intricacies of business operations.

After graduation I decided to go into the field of electronic engineering for a period of four years, it was an obvious move for me because I wanted to gain more technical hands on experience. However, my acquaintance with a number of project managers had slowly steered me towards the field of project management.

So without further adue, I enrolled in the PMP certification course at Advanced Business Consulting Group (ABC), feeling a bit nervous and excited at the same time. Nervous because I had never attended a cram school before, excited because I was about to meet up with people of different calibre from various background.

The friendly and devoted staff here at ABC had certainly made the learning experience itself a true worthwhile experience. The road on to receiving the PMP was not easy as the onus was on each individual to fully understand the materials taught. However, for me the greatest motivation of them all actually came from my family and my team members from 黃金團隊.

I can not say that I have strictly adhered to ABC's training course, but I have made sure that I followed the basic routines, which was to preview and to complete the questions after reviewing the materials taught. I believe it was essential to preview the course content before attending the class, as at the time of previewing, any concpets that puzzled me I would have highlighted them and paid special attention to them during class or peer group study session.

The peer group study session was also another important avenue for gaining deeper understanding of the topics taught and to clarify any misconceptions. Our coach, Yufan, had been a great help, she managed to provide a different perspective into the topics taught and asked us questions which really stimulated our thinking. In addition, it was our team's common goal to be the first team to pass the exam. In the hindsight, I think it was important that we all reached a mutual consensus on the examination date since it really drove us to the ultimate success.

My performance was amongst the top in my group. However, towards the end of my course, there was a sudden increase in my workload, so I could not really focus entirely on preparing for the exam. I slacked off for about a week and that had a serious impact on my results, as a result, I failed the first mock test and only barely passed the second mock test. Coach Yufan even asked me to defer my exam to a later date, but I insisted on sticking to the original date. My advice to all potential PMP certificate seekers is during this time your only prerogative is PMP itself and nothing else.

I must admit, I had butterfly in my stomach on the day of the exam, in my previous exams experiences, the longest I have ever sat was three hours. This and plus the fact that I barely passed the mock test made me felt extremely uncomfortable. Anyhow, I set the test, and read every single question carefully, believe it or not, time really flew, I only had few minutes to spare before the end of exam. Then after pressing submit, I waited, that was probably the longest one minute in my life, for a moment, I thought my testing machine had crashed. Then I breathe a sigh of relief as soon as I read the message indicating that I have passed the exam, "phew", I said to myself, "that wasn't too hard".

Roger is right, gaining the certification is not the end, it is merely the beginning. Two months after receiving my certification, I am now working in a project management environment.

Thanks Roger, Coach Yufan and Zhongan, team 黃金團隊 and the entire helpful staff at ABC. You have all made my PMP experience not so enjoyable but definitly memorable and worth every penny, I would have no hesitation in recommending ABC's PMP certification course to any potential PMP seekers.
